Pregnancy & Postnatal Massage

Pregnancy & Postnatal Massage

Pregnancy or Prenatal Massage can be of enormous benefit to both mother and unborn child. It offers physical and emotional support at a time when your body is going through many changes and can help to prepare you for the birthing process. Pregnancy can put pressure on your joints, ligaments and organs often causing pain and discomfort. A relaxing massage can help alleviate these and other problems associated with pregnancy. Research shows decreased depression, anxiety and leg & back pain with baby also benefiting greatly due to endorphins released by you being passed onto baby. Pregnancy massage is performed using gentle Swedish Massage techniques in a side-lying position to ensure maximum comfort for you and your baby. (Please note that Pregnancy Massage can only be performed after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy)

Postnatal Massage is just as important as Pregnancy Massage helping you to relax and recover from the rigours of childbirth. Being a new mum can be physically and emotionally challenging resulting in tension particularly in the back, neck and shoulders. Having a Postnatal Massage will help to support your body by relieving aches & pains and encouraging your body to regain full health. Massage promotes the release of serotonin which can have a positive impact on your mood and help to improve sleep. Postnatal Massage is similar to pregnancy massage in that it is performed in a side-lying position to alleviate any discomfort due to breastfeeding, etc. (Please note that if you have had a caesarean section the scar will need to be fully healed before treatment can take place)
